Troy Sutton (singer/songwriter)

Q: When where you seduced by music?
TS: I knew exactly one of the things I wanted to pursue at a young age, whether it be a profession or just a labor of love: a songwriter.  I was in 6th grade I believe and was waiting for my mom to purchase some photos she had dropped off for development at the local target store.  Televisions were sold near the photo lab and videos were featured on them, as I believe they still are from time to time.  As I was waiting, I became transfixed by an artist whose song was playing.  I never saw anyone like him among other contemporary artists at the time.  His name, Robert Palmer.  The song, Simply Irresistible. His presence was solidified in my personae by his followup track Early in the Morning.  Little did I know Palmer was a musicologist and would lead me to explorations in nearly all genres of music.  Although his influence is subtle at best on my own music, I consider him my prime mentor.  Later, other influences such as David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Morrissey/The Smiths, and Jack White would have a deep and lasting impact as well.
